And Many Other Health Conditions

Our highly trained therapists specialize in many types of massage therapy.  The following describes the various types available at our facility.  Please take a look at the types and pick the one that best suits your needs.  If you are unsure, just call and one of our doctors along with the therapist will help you to see which type may be of most benefit for you.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very gentle type of massage therapy that involves soft, long, kneading strokes along with light, rhythmic, tapping strokes to the topmost layers of the muscles.  It also is combined with movement of the joints.  Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage.  It is great for relieving muscle tension, relaxation and may even be energizing to the body.  It can also be helpful following an injury.

Neuromuscular Therapy  (NMT) Massage

This type of massage therapy is also common.  Neuromuscular therapy is a form of soft tissue manipulation that has the goal of treating underlying causes of chronic pain.  It is a medically-oriented form of massage that addresses many aspects in the body.  It helps to alleviate tender muscle points in the body called “trigger points”.  NMT also helps to improve circulation, postural issues and biomechanical problems that may be the result of repetitive movement injuries.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Therapy is a type of massage that uses slow, deliberate strokes while focusing pressure on certain layers of muscles, tendons or other soft tissues deep under the skin.  It gives attention to certain painful, stiff “trouble spots” in the body and is a great choice for helping to relieve chronic tension and pain.  Deep Tissue Massage is also good for helping with muscle injuries, such as back strain and sprain.

Lymphatic Massage

This is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of lymph in the body.  The lymphatic system carries waste products away from the tissues through the lymph nodes and and ducts to the cardiovascular system for eventual waste removal.  Stagnation of lymph flow can occur in certain areas of the body, which is known as Lymphatic Congestion.  It has been said that this stagnation of lymphatic flow allows toxins to sit in certain areas of the body for longer than normal periods of time.  Toxic build-up may lead to abnormal tissue growth and may even eventually lead to disease.   Lymphatic Massage is a great type of massage to help eliminate lymphatic congestion.  Lymphatic congestion is sometimes seen with Thermography.  For example, when a Breast Thermography report indicates that there is  lymphatic congestion located under the arm areas in a breast scan, many of our patients choice Lymphatic Massage to help alleviate the toxins that can accumulate due to Lymphatic Congestion.  Please read our section on Thermography to find out more about this safe, painless, non-invasive, innovative technology that offers earlier detection of breast disease.

Sports Massage

Sport Massage is a specialized type of massage developed for athletes.  It focuses on the muscles used in a particular sport.  It can be done before, during or after sporting events depending on the intended purpose.  You may wish to use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries before exercise or after exercise to aid in healing injuries such as muscles strains and sprains.

Chair Massage

Chair Massage is best described as a “quick massage” that is usually done in 10-15 minutes.  It is done while the patient is seated on a massage chair fully clothed.  It is great for people who may not have time for a full hour massage due to their busy schedule on a particular day.  A chair massage is a good way to get the benefits of massage when you may have time constraints.  It is usually done on the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands.  Ask us about scheduling a chair massage day for your work or events.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is described as using varied, rhythmic pressure on certain problematic precise points of the body.  It is used to help relieve muscle spasms that are concentrated at precise areas.   It may also help with the body’s vital flow of energy called chi when used along the Acupressure points.   Common areas which are treated by Trigger Point Therapy are the muscles of the neck and shoulders and the low back and hips.

Hot Stone Massage

Warmed stones are placed on certain areas of the body, such as Acupressure points.  These stones may be left in place for a period of time or used as massage tools.  Hot Stone Massage can be used alone or along with other massage techniques to provide a very soothing and relaxing therapy as the stones transmit heat from the surface of the skin to the deep tissues of the body.  When the heated stones are placed on the Acupressure points, it can help to energize the chi, vital force in the body.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a specialized type of therapy that uses hand, thumb and finger techniques along certain areas of the feet.  The particular “points” on the feet are believed to correspond with particular areas of the body.  This type of massage is expected to promote health and well being.

Pregnancy Massage

During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes.  Pregnancy Massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain.  It may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited.  Our therapists use specially designed massage pillows that assist you in getting into the most comfortable positions during your relaxing massage.

Whether you are looking for simple relaxation, stress relief, pain relief or relief of other symptoms, healing from an injury, suffering from certain health conditions or simply wishing to promote your overall health, Health Concepts will exceed your expectations in all of your massage needs.
